Blue beads are used commonly administered to children in order to avoid the "evil eye" to do (with the blue color is) So yes, I think I could transfer to an idea, the blue beads that protect against disease .

Have not you heard, but I know that the children of the 19 Century wore necklaces made of coral to ward off evil spirits. Perhaps they should also protect against diseases.
